Julie left the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2000 to embark on a casting career in London. She began working in-house at the BBC before setting up her own company in 2005.
Julie is passionate about nurturing and promoting undiscovered talent, helping to launch the careers of numerous young actors. She was particularly praised for her work on Sky Atlantic’s FORTITUDE, BAFTA award winning MISFITS and THE FADES as well as C4’s critically acclaimed UTOPIA, BBC’s spell binding WAR AND PEACE and BAFTA nominated INFORMER.
Julie received a Best Casting BIFA nomination for BEAST (Jessie Buckley & Johnny Flynn) and a C21 nomination for her work on WAR AND PEACE. She won a C21 award in 2021 for I MAY DESTROY YOU.
Julie is from Derry, Ireland.
Rae Hendrie/ Casting Director
Rae has been working in casting since 2012 and has been working at Julie Harkin Casting since 2015.
Prior to this, Rae spent 10 years working as a professional actress after graduating from the Royal Conservatoire Scotland. Coming from a performance background herself, she loves working with actors in the casting room to get the best performance through an open supportive approach. Rae is also a qualified primary teacher and comes from the Scottish Borders.
Nathan Toth/ Casting Director
Nathan’s indirect route into the casting world has provided him with a wide knowledge of creative talent outside the traditional pool of trained actors.
Nathan moved to London from Carlisle in 2008 and started his professional career in the fashion industry, working at several fashion publications before joining Storm Model Management in 2011 as an agent. He made the switch into the entertainment industry in 2015 when he began working at the Donmar Warehouse as Casting & Creative Assistant. Nathan joined Julie Harkin Casting in 2017.
Yvonne Lawlor/ Casting Associate
Yvonne is originally from Birmingham and moved to London to train as an actor at Rose Bruford College. She graduated in 2017 with a 1st class honours degree in BA Acting. Yvonne’s work as an actor, writer and in production has given her a taste for noticing talent and this led her into casting.
Yvonne really enjoys and has a lot experiencing working with children and young people. She is an asset to the team when it comes to kids’ castings and uses her acting coach background to help them place themselves in the world of the character and project.
Alisha Bappoo/ Casting Assistant
Born and raised in London, Alisha got her start in the industry completing two apprenticeships and working at Troika Talent for 3 and a half years before moving over to casting. This allowed Alisha to develop an eye for talent and a love for TV and Film. Her transferable skills from this job has made her an excellent member of the Julie Harkin Casting Team. She has a passion for diversity and inclusion, and the importance of representation on screen.
Caroline Yu/ Casting Assistant
Caroline is originally from Sydney, Australia. She moved to the UK in 2016 to study Law at Cambridge, this now makes for a good anecdote but still occasionally, unexpectedly comes in handy. She then trained as a director at LAMDA, graduating from the MA course in 2020.
Her work with young actors and early-career creatives from various disciplines and backgrounds sparked her interest in bringing artists and stories together. She is passionate about authentic representation and diversity both on and behind the screen.
